Bio
Alexander Cohen
received his A.B. in Biology from Brown University in 1981, and his
Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the State University of New York
at Buffalo in 1989. He joined the faculty at UC Berkeley in 1990, and
has taught courses on the philosophy and rhetoric of science, and the
critical theory of technology. His course, Cinema and Beyond (Film
140), explores the effects of computer and media technology on cinema,
cultural expression, and society. His interests include digital cinema,
the future of cinema, new media, science fiction and critical theory.
His recent articles have appeared in Theory and Society and Intertek.
He is currently Chairman of the board and co-founder of Undergroundfilm.orga 501c(3)
non profit.
